Darlene Rodowicz

Position
President & CEO of BHS, President of Trustees

As President and CEO of Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) and a life-long resident of Berkshire County, Darlene Rodowicz has dedicated her career to advancing the health and wellbeing of the community she loves.

Darlene joined BHS in 1984 and has served on the system’s Executive Leadership Team since 2005. Over the decades, BHS has grown into an integrated system of more than 4,000 employees serving rural Berkshire County, and Darlene has played a crucial role in this evolution through her various leadership positions, including ensuring the financial strength of the organization during her 15 years as Chief Financial Officer.

She also frequently steps forward as a community leader and advocate, having served for years as chair of both the Berkshire Community College Board of Directors and the Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee.

Darlene joined the Board of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association in January 2023, where she leads the Standing Committee on Finance. Additionally, she actively serves on the board of directors for the Berkshire Business Roundtable and is regularly consulted by the county’s business leaders for her expertise.

Darlene has skillfully navigated her professional career and her commitment to community service while raising four children, two of whom followed her into the healthcare workforce—one serving as a nurse and the other as a pharmacist.

In 2023, she was recognized by The Women’s Edge with a statewide honor as one of ten Extraordinary Women Advancing Healthcare. Darlene holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Masters in Business Administration from Western New England College.

Patrick Borek

Position
Vice President, Human Resources

Patrick Borek joined Berkshire Health Systems as Vice President for Human Resources in October of 2017. He is responsible for developing the System’s strategic plan to attract, retain, and develop an engaged and customer-focused workforce, and all aspects of Human Resources including Talent Acquisition, Labor Relations, Compensation, Employee Benefits Administration, Performance Management, Learning and Leadership Development.

Borek received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Queens College, and his MBA from Capella University. He brings 30 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare human resources. Before joining BHS, he was the Senior Vice President for Human Resources at Health Quest Systems, Inc., a three-hospital healthcare system 90 miles north of New York City. Previously, Borek led Human Resources functions at CentraState Healthcare System in New Jersey, Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and Booth Memorial Medical Center (presently New York Presbyterian Queens).

Brenda Cadorette, RN

Vice President, Acute Care & Chief Nursing Office

Prior to serving in this role, Brenda Cadorette has served as Administrative Director of Acute Care Services for Berkshire Medical Center and as Nursing director of inpatient medical/surgical units. A graduate of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine with a Master’s degree in Nursing with an emphasis on Administration, Cadorette also earned a Bachelors o of Science in Computer Science at North Adams State College and an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Berkshire Community College. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, an honor society of nursing which is by invitation only to those who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and achievement in nursing. She is also a member of the Organization of Nurse Leaders MA, RI, NH ( ONL), American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the American Nurses Association (ANA).. Brenda also sits on the Berkshire Community College Clinical Advisory Council and the Elms College Nursing Advisory Council.

Deborah Delaney

Position
Vice President of Finance

Deborah Delaney joined Berkshire Health Systems as the Vice President of Finance in 2010. She began her professional career as a certified public accountant achieving Senior Manager with Ernst & Young. As a healthcare specialist, Delaney had extensive experience with public bond financings, reimbursement and healthcare consulting and audit services. She served as Chief Financial Officer of Elliot Hospital/Elliot Health System in Manchester NH for ten years followed by four years as Managing Director of Strategic Planning and Network Development for Optima Health, the parent company for Elliot Health System and Catholic Medical Center.

Delaney earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Regis College in Weston, MA, and Masters’ degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from Northeastern University. She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She has served as a board member for many community agencies in New Hampshire and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield.

Roberta Gale, RN

Position
Vice President, Community Health

Roberta Gale joined BMC in 1995, serving as an Emergency Department nurse and educator. In 2005, she was appointed Clinical Leader in the Emergency Department. She was appointed to her current position in 2017. Gale is a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a dual Master’s degree in Business Administration and Nursing She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Worcester State College and is a graduate of the RN diploma program at Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. Gale is an active member in the Emergency Nurses Association. She is currently President of the Berkshire Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association.

Laurie Lamarre

Position
Vice President, North Adams Regional Hospital

Laurie Lamarre has been the Senior Vice President of the Revenue Cycle at Berkshire Health Systems since 2006. She joined BHS in 1990 as a payroll specialist and quickly advanced her career in the finance division, serving in a variety of positions prior to her current role. She earned a Master’s of Health Administration from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Lamarre is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and Meditech’s Revenue Cycle Committee.

She is active in community service and previously served as a board member for the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition and is a currenty board member for Ecu-Health Care, both in Northern Berkshire.

Joseph LaRoche

Position
Vice President, Facilities Planning & Construction

Joseph LaRoche was appointed Vice President of Facilities Planning and Construction Management for Berkshire Health Systems in 2017. He previously served as Director of Facilities and General services for two hospitals in Connecticut and returned to the Berkshires in 2006, serving as Director of Facilities Management and Construction for Berkshire Medical Center.

LaRoche is a native of Adams, Massachusetts and attended local schools. He completed accredited college courses in project management, civil and chemical engineering while working toward completion of a bachelor’s degree in general engineering. Active in the community, he serves as the Chair of the City of Pittsfield’s Green Commission, and consults and advises regularly with engineering firms, contractors and utility companies to help create effective solutions to rising energy costs.

James Weil Lederer, Jr.

MD, Chief Medical Officer/Chief Quality Officer

Dr. James Lederer joined Berkshire Health Systems in January of 2020, with more than 20 years of experience in leading innovative, patient-focused, high-quality care initiatives in settings spanning acute-care hospitals, health systems and physician practices. He most recently had served as Vice President for Clinical Excellence at Allspire Health Partners in Pennsylvania. Previously he was Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at St. Alphonsus Health Systems in Idaho, and he has served in senior leadership roles at systems in North Carolina.

Dr. Lederer received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee. He was fellowship trained in Infectious Diseases at St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital. Dr. Lederer is board certified in Internal Medicine and Adult Infectious Diseases.

Andrew Manzer

Chief Operating Officer, Berkshire Medical Center

Andrew Manzer joined BMC as Chief Operating Officer in May of 2020. Manzer had previously served as the Executive Vice President and Network Chief Operating Officer of Bassett Healthcare Network and its subsidiary organizations. Bassett, located in Cooperstown, NY, is a well-regarded, integrated system and a teaching affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Manzer previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, New York.

Manzer has a Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and a Master’s of Health Services Administration from George Washington University in Washington, DC

Kim Obanhein, RN

Position
Vice President, Ambulatory Services

Kim Obanhein joined Berkshire Medical Center in 1987 as a Registered Nurse and quickly advanced in her career to become a nursing department director. She was Administrative Director for Radiology and has worked in Quality Management and Finance. She has served in Project Management at Berkshire Health Systems, overseeing and implementing clinical projects such as renovations to the Intensive Care Unit at BMC, Pharmacy automation, outpatient imaging, development of a new Dialysis Center at Fairview Hospital, Radiology and Digital Mammography. Obanhein holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Scott St. George

Position
Chief Financial Officer

Scott St. George joined BHS as Chief Financial Officer in November of 2020.

St. George has previously held roles in both Finance and Operations. Most recently he served as Senior Vice President of Finance at Albany Medical Center, an academic health sciences center serving 25 counties in northeastern New York. Previously he served as the Chief Financial Officer overseeing the three hospitals comprising the Adirondack region of the University of Vermont Health Network. Prior to that he served as Vice President of Operations for Samaritan and St. Mary’s Hospitals of St. Peter’s Health Partners.

St. George has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Siena College and a Masters in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

William Young

Position
Chief Information Officer

William Young came to BHS in 2009 from Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY, where he had served as Chief Information Officer. During his tenure at Ellis, Young successfully managed the implementation of a multi-million dollar information systems investment plan and was involved as a senior manager in the merger of three hospitals on disparate systems into one organization and one information system.

At BHS, he has developed an Information Technology strategy that includes a Health Information Exchange throughout the Berkshires, a new state-of-the-art physician practice system for both hospital-employed and community based physicians and has successfully led the Information Technology team to achieve Healthcare’s “Most-Wired” status for BHS. Under Young’s direction, BHS continues to be a leader in utilizing Electronic Health Information and is poised to be a “Meaningful” User and achieve the ARRA Stimulus Funding for both BHS’ Hospitals and physician practices.

Young is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a degree in Technical Management and concentration in Information Systems, Economics and Business Law. He has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations, including serving as chair of the Enterprise Information Systems Steering Committee and the Annual Conference Education Committee for the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), co-chair of Health Information Exchange of NY (HIXNY) – NY Capital District RHIO (Regional Health Information Organization), member of the Board of Trustees of Schenectady Visiting Nurse Services, and Scoutmaster for Troop-65 in Glenville, NY.

John A. Loiodice, MD

Position
Chief of Staff at Berkshire Medical Center

John A. Loiodice, MD, FACS, was appointed as Chief of Staff at Berkshire Medical Center in 2002. He is a board certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a graduate of Wayne State University School of medicine in Detroit, Michigan, and trained in Surgery and Otolaryngology at the Albert Einstein Hospital in New York City. Dr. Loiodice practices with Berkshire Ear, Nose & Throat, a BMC physician practice.

Raymond Gary Sohl, MD

Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology

Dr.Raymond Gary Soh lhas served as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology since 2011, and previously served as Medical Director of the Operating Rooms at Berkshire Medical Center from 2007 to 2009. Hejoined Berkshire Health Systems in 2006.

He received his medical degree from the University Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico and New York Medical College, and completed his residency in Anesthesia at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Sohl is board certified in Anesthesiology.

Lauren Slater, MD

Position
Chair of Maternal Child Health

Dr. Lauren Slater joined the BMC medical staff in 2011 and is Chair of Maternal Child Health.She received her medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical School in Syracuse, NY, and completed her residency training at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT.

In addition to general OB/GYN services, Dr. Slater specializes in Gynecologic robotic surgery utilizing BMC’s da Vinci® Surgical System, a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted system that allows the surgeon to perform complex surgery through very small incisions and with great precision.

Caitlin Lopez, MD

Chair of Radiology at Berkshire Medical Center

Caitlin Lopez, MD, is Chair of Radiology at Berkshire Medical Center. Dr. Lopez joined BMC in October of 2016 and has served as Medical Director of the BMC Women’s Imaging Center. Dr. Lopez received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology and fellowship in Breast Imaging at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Missouri.

Marcella Bradway, MD

Chair of the Department of Surgery

Dr. Marcella Bradway is Chair of the Department of Surgery and is a Colon and Rectal surgeon. A Pittsfield native, Dr. Bradway has previously served as Interim Chair of Surgery twice, during 2016 and again in 2018. She is the first female to serve as Chair of Surgery at BMC. She served as Vice Chair of Surgery from 2013 to early 2018. She was honored by the Medical Center in 2012 with its Patient-Centered Physician Award.

Dr. Bradway is board certified in general and colon and rectal surgery and fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery from St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. She received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Connecticut Integrated Surgical Residency Program.

She previously served as Chair of Surgery for Griffin Hospital, Derby, CT and returned to her hometown of Pittsfield in 2008.

Adrian Elliot, MD

Medical Director, Hospital Services & Quality: Fairview

Adrian Elliot, MD, FACEP, is the Medical Director, Hospital Services & Quality at Fairview. Dr. Elliot has served as a physician Medical Director of the Fairview Emergency Department since 2012. Dr. Elliot received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr Elliot will represent Fairview Hospital at Berkshire Health Systems Patient Care & Quality subcommittee meetings.

Alec Belman, MD

Chief of Staff, Chair, Joint Peer Review Committee

Alec Belman, MD, FACEP, is the Chief of Staff and Chair of the Joint Peer Review Committee at Fairview Hospital. He has been an emergency department physician at Fairview since 2007 and has served Medical Director of the Emergency Department, Chief Quality Officer and PCAP Coordinator. Dr. Belman received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Belman will represent Fairview Hospital at Berkshire Health Systems Board meetings.

Joshua Pacheco, MD

Medical Director, Fairview Emergency Department

Joshua Pacheco, MD, is the Medical Director of Fairview’s Emergency Department. Dr. Pacheco has served as a physician in Fairview’s Emergency Department since 2016. Dr. Pacheco received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Albany Medical Center.
